On the Shoulders of Giants – Steven Hawking

I am not sure why, but I bought On the Shoulders of Giants, by Steven Hawking, with the intention of reading the entire 1280 page volume. I was not able to finish any of the works contained in the anthology.  Not because of their difficulty, but because I found all of them, except Einstein’s boring. This is probably because I grew up reading so many books that already assumed that the planets orbit the sun in ellipses according to Kepler’s laws. All the works are legendary from a historical perspective, since they basically changed the course of science and history. The book is a neat addition to a library collection.

Freedom from the Known – Jiddu Krishnamurti

Freedom from the Known by Jiddu Krishnamurti provides a remarkable insight into what it truly means to be free. Krishnamurti’s work should be read by anyone seeking spiritual wisdom.

The Heart of the Buddha’s Teaching: Transforming Suffering into Peace, Joy, and Liberation – Thich Nhat Hanh

Thich Nhat Hanh stands as a foundation for peace in the world today. His book, The Heart of the Buddha’s Teaching: Transforming Suffering into Peace, Joy, and Liberation should be read by all people interested in the teachings of the Buddha. The book provides a detailed description of many concepts central to Buddhism.

MIT OpenCourseWare – Physics – Walter Lewin

It’s rare to find a professor who teaches with the enthusiasm and fun of MIT Professor, Walter Lewin. Which is why I highly recommend the his video lectures on Physics. Also, I would suggest watching the physics lectures of Richard Feynman.

His video courses include:
Physics I – Classical Mechanics
Physics II – Electricity and Magnetism
Physics III – Vibration and Waves

Cosmos (series) – Carl Sagan

A great summary of the human endeavor: Cosmos.  Carl Sagan does a wonderful job outlining the history of the universe. After watching the series, a viewer will have gained a deep insight into everything. This series would be a perfect choice for high-school students; I am surprised I only heard of it recently.  It’s a must see for everyone.

Watch on YouTube or Hulu.
