Probably my favorite book by Leon Lederman, The God Particle provides a fascinating summary of modern physics accessible to all readers. Anyone interested in understanding the Standard Model should check out this book. In fact, this book should be read by any student beginning a course in physics.

Anyone interested in modern theories of physics should read Leon Lederman’s book, Symmetry and the Beautiful Universe. In this book Lederman clearly explains how the idea of symmetry has helped physicists understand the universe. Crucial to his explanation is Noether’s Theorem.
The Red Limit, by Timothy Ferris, narrates the story of the scientists and their discoveries which lead to the discovery that the universe is expanding.
In the book Coming of Age in the Milky Way, Timothy Ferris takes the reader on a trip through history as he details humanity’s gradual revelation of the universe. The book explains in simple terms the discoveries and people who have contributed most to the human endeavor to comprehend the cosmos.
